I became a therapist because I am fascinated by the process of change. It’s amazing to me that two people can sit down, have a conversation and form a connection that can change a life.
Whether it's a single goal that you are pursuing or a bigger shift in the direction your life is going, I believe that therapy can help. I believe it because I've seen it work in my own life and in the lives of my clients.
Good therapy is a balance of science and art.
Therapy isn’t just about giving a listening ear. It’s knowing what to listen for and what to do with that information. It’s understanding how the mind, body and soul work together and how it can get stuck at certain points. It’s something a therapist has to learn. I am grateful to have studied at one of the highest ranked counseling programs in the nation, Georgia State University, where I received my Master’s degree in Professional Counseling. Since completing that program in 2008 I have continued my ongoing education with specialized training in addiction and mental health issues. I also trained under Dr. Rebecca Beaton, a national expert in anxiety and stress disorders.
Therapy requires more than just knowledge though. Therapy is an art.
Every client who walks in my door comes in with a unique history, individual strengths, and a personal way of seeing the world. Together, we develop a path to their goal that is creative and unique. No two client’s experience is the same and no two therapists approach things in the exact same way. The art of therapy isn’t something you can learn from a classroom; you learn it from your clients. Since starting this journey I’ve worked with people from many walks of life. It’s led me to do trauma work in a West African Refugee camp, live alongside at-risk teens in a Georgia Wilderness school, serve as family counselor at one of Atlanta’s most intensive drug rehab centers, and work in a beautiful private practice office in Buckhead. I’ve walked alongside clients with all sorts of labels, issues and struggles and they have been my true teachers.
I bring my education and experiences as a therapist together in a way that helps people to create a life they are proud of. People can change, I see it happen every day in my work.
If you are interested in working together and creating something new in your life, please send me a message. I look forward to hearing from you.
